Pyrex
self-titled
scum stats: just one pressing, so far
If you're wondering how long this record lasts, it's exactly the amount of time it takes for me to sign my name 100 times.
Been meaning to catch up on the Total Punk releases and this is just the first one I plopped on after a week out of the office. I thought it was just ok...most of the songs establish themselves within the first couple of seconds and then do not substantially deviate from that form. Heavy, but not overly so, streamlined, aggressive, guitar forward, intense without grating, and above all, consistent.
I didn't think too much of it, but then I watched the video for "Neptune" and I was immediately struck with the concern of "this shit is creepy." To the point where I'm not even sure if I can recommend viewing it without giving you like a half-dozen trigger warnings. I'll provide the link here, but I'm relenting from actually embedding the clip. Caveat emptor.

Amazing how a visual, whatever it may be, can so strongly shift our interpretation of a purely audio piece of work. I think there's something redeeming here, but to put it into words is a struggle. I keep coming back to the idea of the peculiarity of two seemingly indistinguishable branches of the kitchenware Pyrex.
Only recently had I been made aware that there's a differentiation between an all caps PYREX and all lowercase pyrex. Apparently the lowercase version has a tendency to explode in ovens or microwaves, due to its soda lime glass composition. Meanwhile the all cap version is made of borosilicate glass and is cool to do whatever you want with it.
Dude! That video is super wicked creepy weird! Loved it!!! I’m gonna be saying “Murder, Murder, Murder” all day now, especially with that driving bass line. Thanks for the information on Pyrex bowls too!!
After watching/listening I had a strange urge to pull out my…dvd copy of William Friedkins “Crusing” film released in 1980 starring Al Pacino. RIP Mr. Friedkin.

Wow, not bad music wise but you were right about the video. I was reminded of the things I saw and want to forget in 1980’s Frankfurt in a certain district there, American Horror Story with the leather-bound dude standing stage left while the killing takes place and my fear of red socks. Wow, I will need some help sleeping tonight!!! Honestly, I liked the video, it takes a special artist to bring this much story into a 2 1/2 window during a song. Thanks for the share!!!
