BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK
Modern Nomad
"There It Is, Here You Are"
scum stats: most copies on white vinyl, a small quantity on Wax Mage craziness
Roundabout today marks six years of this record of the week experiment and it still feels like I've only scratched the surface. As in past years, I arbitrarily celebrate by focusing on a new-ish release from the wonderful Soul Step Records imprint.
A beautiful, independent operation, chugging forward on the sheer power of the enthusiasm it espouses for its artists...these are the labels we need more of in the world and are entirely deserving of your respect and your money.
Modern Nomad is smoothly chill, self-claiming that it lands right in the middle of the space between Beck and Prince feels apropos here. Instagram-age bachelor pad vibes are syrupy here, synth strings for days...the word "louche" keeps popping into my head as I listen and I'm unsure if that's a compliment or a diss here. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.
Regardless, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT VINYL RECORD LABEL. You do not know what you've got until it's gone. Here's to another year of this ride, with love to all of you.
