BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK + GIVEAWAY!
Various Artists
Ancient Charm: Masterpieces of Chinese Gu Qin II
scum stats: not even on Discogs (at least that I can find)
Ok, so about a year ago I wrote about volume one of this compilation extolling high praise for the collection. But recently I received a DM on Instagram asking me if I'd be interested in volume 2.
Turns out there's a Vault subscriber (Tao) in China who saw my previous write up and wanted to share with me the follow-up. Even cooler...there was a bundle offer so they bought copies of volume 1 & 2 and sent them both here to Nashville.

Since I've already got a copy of volume 1, I'm sharing the love and giving it away here. Post in the comments here about a great mail surprise...could be truthful, could be a lie, whatever, have fun with it. Submissions need to be in by midnight central time May 19th. Winner solely decided by me.
The music is sublime, calming, just wonderful in every way. I was surprised to learn from the Vault member's letter that the liner notes in Mandarin are written in such a sophisticated manner that even native speakers would have trouble understanding them. Apparently it contains a brief history of gu qin development through different dynasties...though Tao says they gave up trying to read the track by track stories after five minutes.
Nevertheless, even though I can't read any of the text, I certainly enjoy these songs effortlessly and hope other folks here can find the appreciation for it too.
While not the exact audio on what I'm listing here, below is a link for the stuff in this realm. Dig.

Are you going to post a pic of the newly acquired Beatles split on here once it finds its forever place in TMR?

Once upon a time the seventh son ordered seven records. His musical tastes were so impeccable that the emperor became afraid and he sentenced the seven son to be executed. When the armies came to kill him they realized that the post office had once again messed up the house number and they could not find him. The seventh son was saved!

I remember back when there was that white stripes German magazine with a 7inch included, I had put in an order for it, and they never asked for any payment. I assumed that for some reason they were not going to send me it due to the fact that I had no idea how to pay. About 3 to 4 months (maybe longer) it came in, to my surprise!

The only other surprise in the mail, was when merge records had notified me that a William Tyler record I had ordered was out of print and that it would a good long while before it was back in stock. About 8 months later in came in, and included a signed poster! I was absolutely ecstatic!

Someone on White Swirl was selling mystery packages, usually they were pretty good and had a “bagzine,” feel to them, so I said fuck it, let’s go again! I wasn’t dissapointed, it had a lot of cool stuff in it, until I reached in for the last item. It was an un-used Nirvana concert ticket from Paris. I got really emotional about it.

You can find them online for cheap but for some reason, holding that ticket in my hand felt like all of a sudden I belonged to a club I wasn’t apart of until that ticket arrived. It was like I had permission to go to the show, I had permission to be a fan, Kurt was still alive… It was one of the strangest emotional responses I had to an item and it was almost instant.

The only other item I have that created that kind of response was a Horehound Split White and Yellow LP (I don’t know why). I still consider the Nirvana ticket one of my favorite items and get the same feeling whenever I come across it in my collection. The feeling never fades. (this is a true story).

Happy Birthday Rosalyn! A soothing gift from 3rd Man to the Midwest. Taking me back to 8-8-8 all over again.
