BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

Sidewalk Collective & Patti Smith

Correspondences Volume 1

Scum stats: 150 copies on white vinyl, signed and numbered, significantly more on black vinyl

Patti Smith with a more experimental bent, just gotta love it. I want to say this is completely out of my wheelhouse…but then I am always game for the left field, the odd, the difficult to describe. Maybe I just don’t have a wheelhouse.

These recordings here are worth the effort of getting out of your comfort zone. We could all stand to hear more spoken poetry and more ambient drones in our lives. And the fact that “Pasolini” evolves into some light lifting techno-esque programming is an appropriate reward here. Trust me.

I blown off by Patti once outside of Carnegie Hall, we were waiting to hopefully meet Iggy. She was good live though.

Like you, I am also not completely on board with this type of art, but I can appreciate it more in small doses. Diehard artsy aurophiles will tell you that the whole album is the novel and each track, the chapters of the experience, but I am not that person that can enjoy the novel. It puts my brain asleep. One chapter at a time………….. unless it is Pink Floyd. They know how to write the novel!!!
