BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

Dean Reed

Pistolero b/w Hummingbird

Holy shit does this one smoke! Seemingly inspired by Gene Pitney and possibly an influence for Jack Wood's "Born To Wander" this jam "Pistolero" came up on a digital compilation called "Born To Be Wild" and it stuck out for being so damn exciting.

Tracked down an original single (affordable!) and now the Western-tinged, gunfight at the mediocre corral vibes here is something that I want an entire pile of. I mean, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" seems to be a spiritual predecessor to this one, there's gotta be more, right?

Worth the price they're asking. Just grab. And if you're looking for a roller coaster, peep his wikipedia, dude had a wild ride.

Great choice for the Record of the Week!!! I have been searching for the Scranton pressing of this one. There are plenty of LA pressings available through Discogs. The Wiki article was very interesting, thanks for that tidbit! BTW, no relation to me LOL.
