The Raconteurs
Help Us Stranger
scum stats: Vault version with diff cover and green/copper vinyl, indie store exclusive with silk-screened sleeve and white vinyl, also dedicated versions for the Saboteurs down under (one of which i’m holding in the accompanying pic…because that’s how I roll)
What can I say? I feel the same way about this record as I did about “Consolers of the Lonely” when it came out eleven years ago. Working in a medium that is so easily rehashed, bloated, signified and “old”, the Raconteurs distill the most classic essence of rock and roll into a new, compelling and progressive form.
If I’ve learned anything from the lead-up campaign to this album, it’s how MANY people favor the Racs as their preferred Jack White vehicle. Weirdly, some peeps just can’t get on board with the Stripes because of the lack of bass, simplified drumming, matching outfits or whatever. I don’t understand it, but I acknowledge it. And in the ten years at Third Man…the Racs have primarily been relegated to reissues and live Vault releases…we’ve not previously experienced the wallop that a new studio album from them brings.
But wallop it does and live, it’s even stronger. I’m very, very excited to see where this journey takes us.
Also…just post some shit in the comments. Whatever you want. I’ll let my daughter Violet scroll through and pick a name at random and that person will get a test pressing of “Help Us Stranger”
Happy release day everyone.

Wednesday my beautiful granddaughter Azalea turned 2. She calls me PaPaw. Her birthday party was at a local park and it lasted four hours. I showed up for the last hour after I got off work. When she looked up from her friends and saw me she ran to me saying PaPaw, Papaw. She jumped up into my arms and gave me the most honest long hung. Doesn’t get much better than that in this life. And that’s all I have to say.

Did you know we have polar bears here in Finland and we tame them to ride to school? And during one winter day, the sun won’t show itself to us at all, and on one night in the summer, the sun doesn’t set at all. That’s how it is, but that doesn’t keep us from enjoying the amazing offerings TMR ships here, like this new album by The Raconteurs.
I can’t believe I won!!! I never win anything. Everything is gonna be different from now on. No, I really mean it this time. This is like some kind of good omen or something. It’s just like seriously the best that ever happened to me in my life. You want to know how much? Well , for example, if I could have any wish granted to me it wouldn’t be to have another wish or for like my feet to be webbed or anything even remotely like that. It would be to win this test pressing of the Raconteurs great new record album. So when I realized that I had really won I jumped up and clicked my heels together 6 times. Now mind you I have done 4 handily for years and 5 one time when I drank some of my uncles moonshine, but never 6. It’s pretty much impossible accept I’ve been told my great great grandpa from Albania did it once to win his teeth back in an awful gambling incident. Anyway I pretty much fell flat on my face after the sixth click. It hurt pretty bad and bent my nose all to hell. I wouldn’t have minded but I do some nose modeling on the side and it was becoming somewhat lucrative. But I don’t even care about that cuz winning this test pressing is like better than anything ever could be. Everything’s gonna be different from now on I keep saying.
How will we find out who won?
Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.
That dude with the kerchief on his face reminds me of riding horses out west on a dry afternoon wishing the day ends on a tired note with a nice sunset listening to the horses refreshing themselves hoping for morning breakfast and another full day of work and pleasure! Living the dream!
