Evangelist Maria H. Gardner
“Come Out of the Hog Pen”
scum stats: seems like two cover variations, probably 500 pressed if I had to guess. Pressed at Archer, hell yes.
Any record that references a hog pen is a “must grab” for me. An added plus is anytime there are coffee rings on an LP cover. You KNOW someone appreciated that shit in a past life.
But any record referencing Pig Pen I approach with caution. I never liked the Grateful Dead. Vince Guaraldi…I can get down with.
“Have you tried Jesus?” she sings, like it’s some kinda new soda. Get live with this. It cooks.
@BroomDuster This is awesome, but Sister Rosetta Tharpe is in a category by herself
well you know that thing about Jesus
I’m drinking up the soda. Little Esther Phillips and Sister Tharpe ain’t got nothing on this. Finding good gospel is the best and I pick up anything with the key words ‘reverend’, ‘sister’, or ‘gospel’ and hope for the best. Any chance we’ll get Young John Watson’s (aka Johnny Guitar Watson) ‘Space Guitar’ anytime soon? Sickest guitar track from the 1950s ever. EEEVVVEERRRRR!
That’s a great tune!
So much energy and power in her voice! Wow! I don’t listen to gospel music a lot, but I’m always struck by the force the music has when I do. Thanks for highlighting this one, incredible!
Dig that beat sounds like a slowed down version of VU’s waiting for my man.
I meant to say, You should know that your hair looks amazing and not about guys having the prettiest hair eyes and lashes. Ha ha!!! Although you do have pretty eyes. And of course Mr. White has beautiful hair and eyes, I might add. ??
What fervor!!! I felt like getting up and praising God, felt like I was in their service!!! I must say Mr. Blackwell on a different note, that your hair looks amazing. Guys have some of the prettiest hair, eyes and lashes. I just thought you should know.
