Mudhoney
“Touch Me I’m Sick” b/w “Sweet Young Thing Ain’t Sweet No More”
scum stats: one of 10-15 copies pressed on red vinyl
“The shot heard ‘round the world” as so aptly described by the winter ’97 Sub Pop mail order catalog.
Already having the brown and black vinyl versions that never came with picture sleeves (not to mention 2-3 of the pic sleeve copy variants), this recent arrival is a welcome addition to my off-overlooked Sub Pop collection.
Is there a better debut single in rock and roll history? “Bo Diddley” and “That’s Alright Mama” are up there, for sure, but I honestly can’t say they’re better.
If you’ve lived under a rock for the past THIRTY years, do not fret, this is the place to start. Enjoy.
side note: oh MAN how I hate the “haze” that is on EVERY LAST COPY of this record that came without a picture sleeve. all copies were originally housed in a particularly dumb kind of mylar sleeve that ends up “off-gassing” and leaving a cloudy discoloration on the grooves. even copies being sold by guitarist Steve Turner recently on eBay state that the band realized what was happening mere months after release and took ALL copies out of the mylar, but to no avail, as that plastic made it’s mark QUICK.
‘Suck you dry’ is playing right now on my phone, I have 2 tickets to see them at Dante’s in Portland Oregon in September but only 1 me anyone want to go? Seriously. I’m a fisheries scientist in a small WA town, no friends. Going to see Jack too, Melvins, let me know. Haha
How did I miss this!!!!!!
Nice! Just listened to that single a couple days ago. The colored one looks freaking awesome!
Amazing band!
Also quality jams …Touch me I’m Dick
They are playing at a small club Dantes in Portland Oregon later this year.
Ah yisss! This is a great single. It was one of the first 7" I purchased
what a interesting request
Couldn’t have been Mylar, it’s chemically inert – probably PVC, with its plasticizers…nasty stuff.
Sounds great on my new Monster TMR headphones thanks to the awesome deal at Cass where you buy $100 in vinyl you get free headphones! Thanks, TMR!
