Imagination Anthem Volume 8: The Private Press
Don’t tell my wife that I’m currently back in the office writing this. I’m supposed to be getting the oil changed and the car washed. That’ll happen eventually. But this record is something everyone needs in their life. A collection of acoustic, vocal-less recordings of all completely unknown, primarily self-released artists is a dream. Liner notes are wonderfully in-depth and if you need only take away one thing from it all, it’s Joe Bethancourt’s completely transcendent “Raga” which is worth the price of admission alone. If I wasn’t compiling/pressing/overseeing four Vault packages a year I’d love to think that I’d be doing releases more along these lines. I’ve got some in the works, but damn this shit is hard and that’s all the more reason to appreciate the work put into this.
Anyone who’s into Peter Walker or William Tyler would probably love this record.
This sounds very interesting..
Just queued up the album on Tidal and listened to Joe Bethancourt’s Raga. Gotta thank you for the recommendation, that’s some seriously cool stuff. Sort of like a cross between Anouar Brahem and Bombino. He’s now on my list to look for at my local record shops. Hope someday you will have the chance to get some stuff like this out on the Cass label. In the meantime, I’m off to listen to the rest of the album while you go get your oil changed.
