"Base Rage on the Front of the Page"
scums stats: limited to 600 copies
While the music on this one isn't necessarily my cup of tea (recommended if you like Dropkick Murphys, Rancid, Cock Sparrer) it doesn't come out for another week, so I can't even share it here. But the packaging and forethought on this one is next-level.
What we've got here is a one-sided 12" single, with UV printing on the non-music side which enables four different "lenses" which reveal hidden images, words and thensome when used to view the printed album art.
Pretty, pretty slick job here. I feel like Third Man actively detoured away from true novelty/innovation a couple years back, probably around the time we started building the plant. But seeing things like this and the amazing work being done by Wax Mage and Romanus Records and I at least know there are brilliant minds who took up the cause.
If folks keep dropping records like this, I'll have no choice but to get inspired and come up with some more brain-busting gems to unleash on the public.
Ben – In case you were not aware, a Canadian filmmaker has done a documentary on the Detroit hardcore scene circa 1981-82 called ‘Dope, Hookers and Pavement: The Real and Imagined History of Detroit Hardcore’. More info on it can be found at detroithardcoremovie.com. It’s not freely available until Jan. 1 but sounds right up your alley.
You just reminded me yet again HOW MUCH I MISS THE GREEN SERIES!! Those were fun and exciting times. At least Jack’s still doing that sort of insanely creative stuff in his upholstery projects and, thank whatever’s above, sharing it with us on social media, at least. I need to slap some Edgar Oliver Triple Reverse Cryptophonica on my turntable when I get home from work tonight.
Love the stuff that Romanus puts out. Got myself a coffee-filled Weeks record. I really want the Ghost Wolves with razor blades inside…
Thanks for the link I love this stuff definitely going to grab some stuff here. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Happy Happy Joy Joy look at all the toys.
Damn that’s cool!!!
That sounds awesome. Gotta love specialized records.
