BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Stooges

Complete Funhouse Sessions 15xLP boxset

scum stats: claimed limited to 1970 copies, I have reason to believe they made far fewer than that number

The pained look on my face is from the sheer muscle strain it takes to hold 15 damn LPs long enough for the photobooth app to click down it's shutter.

If you feel like you're asking yourself "Do I need the 15 LP Stooges Fun House set?" then you certainly do not need this thing.

But if you want it...just get it.

Me, oddly, I must say, even though I had personally pitched Rhino on the idea of Third Man releasing this, I don't think it's a must have. I do not know how many times I will actually be getting into the nitty gritty and listening to all the outtakes.

Blasphemy, I know.

While I'm kinda left thinking "what more could be said about Fun House?" it seems like Henry Rollins has a 10,000 word response to that. I didn't feel like his notes added anything significant beyond what Ben Edmonds had already espoused in the original 7xCD collection of this material. Even the essay I wrote for this damn thing, I mean, shit, if you email me, I'll send it to you. I'm not expecting ANYONE to be so starved of Ben Blackwell blathering so as to spend $400 to read 500 words about this record.

The extras kinda make it special though...slip mat, 45 adaptor, two posters (though smaller than I thought they should be) bonus 7"s and the original album cut at 45rpm and spread across three LP sides....all good shit.

While I will never be as audacious to complain about TOO MUCH Stooges product being out there, I will just say that this one is clearly for the insane ones...and now I'm questioning if I'm even insane enough for this anymore.

Ah, who am I kidding...if I didn't think that Rhino would send me a free copy I would've been first in line to buy this shit. Longs lives the Stooges.

I bought it. It arrived shrink wrapped but missing all of the extras when I opened it. I asked either for the missing material or a swap for a complete package. Rhino’s response? Too bad. Send it back if you want a refund but you’re out of luck. A few months ago I bought two LPs from Rhino and both were so badly pressed that they were unplayable on any turntable I have. Rhino used to be a great little company, but now? Shoddy product at very high prices.

I forked out the cash soon as this baby was announced back before the new dark ages began. It’s worth every penny. I could dump it for twice what I paid for it on eBay but on account of its weight , I’m using it to hold the door open in the back room. I had been using my dads old blue marble bowling ball to keep that wandering door in place, but he stopped over and asked for it back. Says he’s a hankering to roll that old ball again after 17 years dormancy. I wasn’t gonna argue with the man. Turns out though that what he really wanted his old blue ball back for was a little more nefarious You see, the old local bowling alley ‘Brongo Bowl” had to close down on account of the plandemic so him and 33 of his oldest friends and bowling associates assembled at the back door of the 12 lane hall to find the owner in tears.

I missed this On the preorder and am not important enough to earn a free copy. I am, however, one of the insane ones that has to have this for my collection. I just purchased it on the aftermarket and the cost wasn’t pretty. Oh well. Live and learn, but at least I can now die in a heap of fun house mania.

BOOTHAM

Too bad it’s sold out. Guess I’ll have to wait for my free copy.

Ha Ha!!! Looks like they did send you a free copy and you didn’t have to use your discount!! That thing is massive. I am super excited for Live At Goose Lake next week!!!

NotSoChiGirl

I’ve been teetering on this one but decided I’d rather have more live Stooges in my life. But I do want to hear this at least once. Time to make a friend.

I listened to Henry’s 4 hours and 2 minutes KCRW special. What’s 10,000 more words?

give The Frost their due with some proper reissues.

Ben: speaking of TMR reissues, after reading through the De Stijl book with vault 44, any chance of TMR ever releasing the Gun Club’s Fire of Love? Seems right up your alley, and this thing is fairly hard to find. Maybe a Vault package someday?
