Loose Koozies
Slow Down Time b/w Marita
scums stats: they didn’t tell me any
There will always be a sweet spot in my heart for bands from Detroit that self-release their own single. As if being from Detroit isn’t tough enough, having to do all the record label shit on your own is no picnic. Respect.
So, in and of itself, the Loose Koozies single is already aces in my book. The fact that frontman E.M. Allen does time in the Craig Brown Band certainly doesn’t hurt.
A-side starts off hazily reminiscent of the Eagles “Take It Easy” and I’m unsure if the band would view that as a compliment or a diss.
I don’t like the Eagles, but I like this song. It trucks. Has a melody. Is reminiscent without stepping into pastiche. A tough balance.
And I like E.M. (I know him as Eric) because I appreciate his trajectory. He once interviewed me at my mom’s house while he was writing for Real Detroit Weekly. He now sports an impressive beard and I commend that.
The flip-side is a little slow for my tastes, but I can understand where it’s coming from. Ain’t my cup of tea but I see some folks digging it. Bonus: with a publishing company named “Sneakers Has Hamms” you just KNOW that was said in earnest at one point and was TOO good not to utilize in a completely different context.
(Sneakers is a bar in Ferndale, Michigan, FYI)
Do your duty and support working artists by buying this single. There’s literally no downside.
bought the record. got here fast with a hand written note from e.m. allen. hope they make out to washington state. excellent music! thanks for your weekly records. i’ve managed to pick up a few of them over the years.
Love it, just bought the 7” on their Bandcamp. Thanks for the recommendation!!!
I love this , reminds me of New Riders of the Purple Sage and who doesn’t want to swim day and night as the song says ?
I love the laid-back vibe of these songs. Picked up on that “Take It Easy” mood immediately. “Marita” made me think of drinking an imported Mexican beer with lime in the dark corner of some dive bar where the jukebox never stops playing. Thanks, again, for sharing!
@Matthew Williams A lot of folks think in terms of Hotel California, etc., but—Desperado, man. One of those albums that’s close to perfect.
everyone likes to hate on The Eagles. I like them.
single on Bandcamp!
Woo Hoo‼️ Very cool ?
“From the land of sky blue waters…” Never was a fan, teethed on Falstaff among other swill.Needed a Koozie to keep ’em cold! Here in the Great Northwest we had a band called Sneakers, out of Eugene. Of course Rainier was the beer of choice.
