BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

scum stats: I’d guess 500 of these pressed

In a sea of THOUSANDS of teenaged Sixties garage bands, one named “The Warlocks” and covering “Hey Jo” (why’d they drop the “E”?) does far from standing out. Even being on one of my favorite Michigan label groups in the Prophonics/Coconut Groove/Washington Square family still barely causes this to stand out from the dross.

BUT…I don’t think there’s any other versions of “Hey Joe” that include actual gun shots recorded in the studio.

That’s it. That’s enough for me. I’m easy.

Produced by Cecil Washington, better known as a soul singer/producer in his own right, I just love the borderless, genre-hopping limitlessness that independent, 7-inch focused artists clicked on to back in the mid-Sixties. I wish we had some sort of modern equivalent.

This arrived recently and I’m whittling away the stray Michigan garage singles that have slipped past me in the last twenty years. Not too many I’m still in search of. Tiny victories.

I agree, most are decent thought overpriced if you want to buy. Just nice to have your own picture. I did not have it out during the show, I was very close to the front and had a great view, just nice to get a pic of your own and like I said, the show was over at that point.

@Raw but…. they provide professionally shot photos of every show so why bother?

Raw

Lol, sorry I’m not having something keeping me from getting to my phone if it’s physically on me. I took a picture at the end when they were on stage after the show was over. You can actually see it in the picture taken from behind where they are all embracing each other. I’ve been a member since 2012 and bought every Vault and also both Fall & Rise sets. So try, after dropping a few grand, I’m taking a picture at the end of the show.

“Jo”? Maybe it’s a gender innuendo?

Saw the Racs last night at probably my fourth or fifth Yondr pouch JW show. It’s refreshing to not have the phone distraction thing going. Annoying people who text, or worse yet talk, play games, etc. on the their phones while something amazing is going on on stage.

Hey, I get it; sometimes I take photos and videos at concerts. But when the band asks you to pouch it, just do it and…

Respect the band! Respect your fellow concert goers! Don’t be an idiot! Don’t be an asshole!

If you get a chance to see the Racs you better go; get ready for some good old fashion rock and roll; amazing!

@Raw how bout don’t be an idiot

@Raw, fucking respect the bands request, you asshole, no phones! Like the ass that posted the Racs Blue Veins video, I hope you are banned from future shows. No phones, it’s that simple.

Thanks for the tip, David, I’ll find it!

Hey in anyone is curious, those Yondr pouches are easy to rip apart. Just pull hard enough, mine popped out easily. Got some good pics and now I have a nice phone case for hiking lol!

Adding The Warlocks to the growing list of bands I need to hear more music from, thanks!
