Original Soundtrack Recording
The Sound of Music
Scum stats - you know someone out there probably knows about ALL the many variants on this one. I’d like to meet that person.
So I’m in Detroit for a wedding, killing time at mom’s house, trying to find a record worth writing about.
I don’t care how cool you think you are, this record is the shit. The last time I watched the film a year or two ago, I couldn’t help but be wowed with how Rodgers and Hammerstein just NAILED it. No joke, there are EIGHT songs on here that are legit contenders for greatest song of all-time. Damn, the Beatles don’t even have an album that dense with hits.
These tunes are hard-wired into my DNA and honestly, I don’t think I really listened to or saw the film THAT much. They’re just so instantly memorable. “My Favorite Things” are you kidding me? Even John Coltrane could not argue with the weight of that one and had to join in himself!
So take a load off and give this one a shot and enjoy the fruits of two total songwriting geniuses knocking it out of the park song after song after song.
Totally agree!Listened to it from birth (1968)LOL. THE BEE’S KNEES, this one.I have my grandma’s copy, which I probably listened to since I was 4. You couldn’t be more right! Who ever would say it wasn’t cool?!?
We have this and it’s one of our favorites!!
I have this on vinyl! I’m 45, and I’ve had this since I was a kid, and wold listen to it all the time. Haha! My cover is a little more tattered, though.
Hi guys and galls,
Are you aware that Laibach a European rock/avant-garde band have issued a Gold vinyl cover album of the entire Sound of Music soundtrack? It’s so weird, all the songs are there – The Hills Are Alive (with the sound of music), The Lonely Goatherd, My Favourite Things. There are 6 videos on U-tube if you have access and I am allowed to mention U-Tube here.
My favorite movie of all time There is a photo book that accompanied the vinyl I have By the way catch the tour of the Broadway show of The Sound of Music if you can I just saw it ,and it was fantastic !
Love this pick. And I’m not even much of a fan of the movie.
I have a copy as well. Mary Poppins is right there with it. Beautiful songs. Gotta love films that brings up little tears paying tribute to life.
So within 3 seconds of hearing the first track, I heard Gwen Saffoni “turn it up” I’ll revisit this later.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa…. whoa. Back up a minute, there. “Damn, the Beatles don’t even have an album that dense with hits.”???? May I present to you the following albums (British versions) to check out: A Hard Days Night, Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, The Beatles, and Abbey Road. Throw in Beggar’s Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Mainstreet by the Stones and I guarantee you could run classic rock radio station for a week before anyone noticed you were playing the same songs over and over again.
favorite things is just part of everyday life really..
