AUTUMN PLAYLIST 2016

AUTUMN PLAYLIST 2016

Cozy sweaters, crock pots full of chili, crunchy leaves under your feet (not to mention a lack of bugs, humidity, or need for air conditioning)…the TMR fam REALLY loves the fall season. As a tribute to the colder weather, we have all pitched in to compile a playlist of Autumn-inspired jams for you to listen to with a pumpkin spice latte in-hand on your dark 5pm drive home, or perhaps next to a warm fireplace while you plan your holiday wish list. Enjoy!

"Molly" by Sponge

I heard this song right around the time Mabel was born five weeks ago and something unexpectedly struck a chord. I'd sworn off Sponge years ago as Detroit's dumb luck post-Nirvana grunge lottery winner c-level Stone Temple Pilots. They was no mistaking them as cool. But I really don't give a shit about what's "cool", there's some deep sixth grade reminiscence here and it feels good. I can sing along to this and smile, I can dig up live television performances from twenty years ago and marvel, I can YouTube modern acoustic versions and have it scratch every itch I was hoping it would, I can do mental gymnastics trying to justify buying a 100 Euro copy of "Rotting Pinata" on Discogs and ultimately not pull the trigger...but still constantly think about it. My wife is sick of hearing me sing this, not sure if it's registering with either of my daughters, but everything about this song makes me feel happy.

"Wow" by Beck

Catchphrase Beck lyrics on par with his best, most enjoyed when exclaimed by my three-year-old Violet with an amazed, drawn out "Like wooooooooow!"

"Gimme Danger" by Iggy and the Stooges

After seeing the documentary of the same name, I just keep singing this title to myself over and over...a Stooge song I've otherwise never cared for or spent much time with. Paternity leave does funny things.

i have to take this moment to say farewell to Leonard Cohen …. the epitome of fall musicians…. his gift was quite rare in so many ways as poet first and inevitable musician …. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IEVow6kr5nI …. You will be missed … https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/nov/11/leonard-cohen-dies-aged-82

Excellent post! Concrete Blonde and The Cowboy Junkies always remind me of autumn. Or vice-versa
