As you may already know, June's Light + Sound Machine is special for a few reasons. First and foremost, though screenings generally happen on the third Thursday of each month, June's screening will take place on TUESDAY, JUNE 30th, a one-month disruption to our regular schedule.

Secondly, not only will our Light + Sound Machine audience be viewers this month, they will also be actors! More on that later...

Made for a mere $200, Who Killed Captain Alex?, the first Ugandan action film, is a riotous amalgamation of 80's Hollywood actioneers and classic Asian Kung-Fu movies, filtered through the gritty no-holds-barred immediacy of Samuel Fuller. Having swept through urban Uganda upon it's 2010 release, the film that announced the arrival of "Wakaliwood" cinema was recently remastered and released for a worldwide audience. Now it's become a worldwide phenomenon, garnering generous praise from Vice Magazine and the BBC World Service.

After the film, we will have a skype Q&A with director Nabwana I.G.G., producer Alan Ssali Hofmanis, and the cast, followed by a Light + Sound Machine first: we're becoming part of the action! We'll be shooting footage of our screening audience getting blown up to send back to Uganda for Nabwana to use in a future Wakaliwood production! Also, before the screening begins, 5 lucky pre-sale ticket-holders will be chosen at random to make their international film debut by being "killed on camera" against our Blue room "green screen." To be eligible, purchase a ticket either from Third Man or from the Belcourt Theatre (w/ a discount for Belcourt members) by Friday. June 26th. You will be notified via e-mail if you have been chosen with details as to where/when to show up for your taping.
