Light + Sound Machine Welcomes...The Center for Home Movies

Posted by Third Man on 5 January 2016

SUNDAY January 17th, Third Man Records, Doors at 7pm, Films at 8pm
$10 through thirdmanstore.com / $8 Belcourt members via belcourt.org

On January 17th, The Light & Sound Machine will be visited by The Center For Home Movies, an association of film archivists whose mission is to transform the way people think about home movies by providing the means to discover, celebrate, and preserve them as cultural heritage. The Center for Home Movies seeks opportunities to fulfill its mission through a variety of activities and projects aimed at preservation and outreach. Its first and most enduring project has been establishing Home Movie Day as an annual international tradition, which has in turn led to the Living Room Cinema DVD release and the ongoing Home Grown Movies collections of material discovered at Home Movie Day screenings. The Center for Home Movies acts primarily as a clearinghouse for home movie collections, finding appropriate homes for potential donors. They also maintain a small collection, housed at the Library of Congress’s Packard Campus in Culpeper, Virginia.

At the event, CHM board members will speak about their archival efforts and present a selection of films while providing historical background. The night will culminate in a selection of silent home-movies paired with live musical accompaniment by virtuoso guitarist and Nashville favorite William Tyler.

Visit CenterForHomeMovies.org to learn more about CHM and the vitality of home-made cinema.
