Black Friday Exclusive and New Releases

Posted by Third Man on 17 November 2016

While we could take or leave the November "tradition" of speeding to your nearest big box retailer in the middle of the night, belly full of turkey and thanks forgotten, we have a very special place in our hearts for record stores, so any chance to turn selling records into a party is a opportunity we wouldn't dare miss. This Black Friday, Third Man Records is pleased to bring into existence not only a long overdue colorful Record Store Day Black Friday Exclusive, but also two new standard vinyl releases. Check with your local independent retailer for availability details.

THE RACONTEURS – “Steady As She Goes” 7” Single on Emerald Green Vinyl

For our official Black Friday Record Store Day offering, Third Man Records is pleased to finally fulfill the destiny of the mysteriously unused catalog number TMR120. We are equally pleased to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of one of the most popular tunes on the Third Man imprint, loved by all and pressed only briefly as a single by V2 in 2006. The time has come for The Raconteurs “Steady As She Goes” b/w “Store Bought Bones” to be given the Third Man Records treatment. So, without further ado, we present this apple of our eye, this still-fresh-finer-with-time-never-gets-old exception of a song — the record your shelf has long longed for.

“Steady As She Goes” b/w “Store Bought Bones” for Black Friday will only be available at participating Record Store Day retailers on “Hermitage Hotel Men’s Restroom Emerald Green” vinyl to match the oft-since-selfied location of its cover photo. Each 7” also contains one of two reproduction backstage credential stickers from past Raconteurs tours and the clout to go with them.

The black vinyl will follow shortly after this November 25th release, never to go out of print again… Rejoice!

Black Friday also marks a new era of availability for The White Stripes pivotal double LP Get Behind Me Satan. Previously released for the first time commercially on Record Store Day 2015 on red and white vinyl in celebration of its 10-year anniversary, the record has never (yes, that’s right — NEVER) been available commercially on black wax.

This new era we’re ushering in means you can listen to “Blue Orchid” and “My Doorbell” on repeat without worrying about wearing out your precious colored grooves… this record will remain in print in perpetuity and will always, always, always be available from November 25th on into the great unknown. This double LP includes an MP3 download code as well as the same newly-created inner artwork featured on the 2015 limited edition.

YUSUF / CAT STEVENS "I Love My Dog" / "Matthew and Son" Double A-Side 7" on BLACK VINYL

On September 27th of this year, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, took to the most sacred stage in Nashville to awe the sold-out Ryman Auditorium crowd with his persistent musical transcendence. The day prior, Yusuf took to another Nashville stage entirely and performed to no one in particular - a set for himself, of two songs from his earliest days. That stage was the Third Man Records Blue Room, and that set, consisting of the A-sides from Stevens' first two singles, was recorded direct-to-acetate on our 1955 Scully lathe and is now set for release as the second offering in Third Man's Blue Room Sessions series.

With artwork by world renowned illustrator Jess Rotter, this double A-side 7" features "I Love My Dog" and "Matthew and Son" performed by Yusuf and his pared-down touring band with palpable intimacy and a rare calm in the midst of a busy world tour.

The 7" single will be available worldwide on black vinyl on November 25th.

The Third Man online store will offer Get Behind Me Satan and the Yusuf / Cat Stevens' 7", as well as 30% off EVERYTHING (gift cards, vault subscriptions, new & limited releases, and tickets excluded) beginning Black Friday and lasting through "Cyber Monday." No coupon code necessary. Both Third Man Records physical locations will also offer 30% off orders (same exclusions apply) as well as the limited Black Friday "Steady As She Goes" 7", while supplies last.
