Produced in 1964, THE T.A.M.I. SHOW (an acronym for Teenage Awards Music International) is a legendary concert film showcasing some of the biggest acts of the period, including Chuck Berry, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Lesley Gore, Smokey Robinson, and a “Battle of the Bands” between James Brown with his Famous Flames and The Rolling Stones. THE T.A.M.I. SHOW was shot live over two days at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on videotape, using the then-innovative Electronovision (and then transferred to film). This broadcast was rarely seen for decades due to rights issues, but last December, Light + Sound Machine hosted a T.A.M.I. Show screening during our regular third-thursday film nights, and what happened was much like what' you'd expect in a room full of good people, good beer, and the best music that's ever been made: a dance party ensued. And thus, a tradition was born.
This year, we're upping the ante and hosting THE T.A.M.I. Show simultaneously on 16mm film, at not one, but TWO locations: Our normal Light + Sound Machine venue, The Blue Room, and Third Man Records Cass Corridor in Detroit. (This will be the first screening at our new location!) We will dance the night away to music that moves us, and we want you there with us, so get your tickets NOW at thirdmanstore.com/third-man-live
This screening WILL SELL OUT, so if you normally wait until the last moment to for L+SM screenings, this is the month to change your ways.
Discounted tickets for Belcourt members are available HERE.

Third Man Records has received a number of prestigious nominations for the upcoming 58th Annual GRAMMY® Awards. The GRAMMY® Awards will be held on Monday, February 15th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS from 8-11:30 pm (ET/PT).
Third Man earned three nods across a trio of important categories:
“I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)” – the first single/video from The Dead Weather’s acclaimed third album, DODGE AND BURN – was named in the “Best Music Video” category, honoring video directors Cooper Roberts & Ian Schwartz and video producers Candice Dragonas & Nathan Scherrer. “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)” can be viewed below:
THE RISE & FALL OF PARAMOUNT RECORDS, VOLUME TWO (1928-32) – released via Third Man Records / Revenant Records – was nominated as “Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package,” naming art directors Susan Archie, Dean Blackwood, and Jack White. The nomination follows last year’s GRAMMY winning package for THE RISE & FALL OF PARAMOUNT RECORDS, VOLUME ONE (1917-32). Last, but certainly not least, Third Man Records’ 10-inch, 78rpm facsimile vinyl re-release of Elvis Presley’s “My Happiness,” his first ever recording from 1953, was nominated for “Best Recording Package,” honoring art directors Jack White & Nathanio Strimpopulos. Today’s nominations continue Jack White’s long run of top GRAMMY® nods and triumphs, with 2012’s RIAA gold certified solo debut, BLUNDERBUSS, earning five nominations over two years, including “Album of the Year,” “Best Rock Album,” “Best Rock Song” (for “Freedom At 21”), “Best Rock Performance,” and “Best Music Video” (the latter two honoring the single, “I’m Shakin”). 2014’s LAZARETTO also proved popular with GRAMMY® voters, scoring a nomination as “Best Alternative Music Album,” while its title track received the 2015 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Rock Performance” as well an additional nod as “Best Rock Song.” To date, Jack has won 11 GRAMMY Awards and received 32 nominations.
Highlighted by such songs as “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles),” “Cop and Go,” and “Impossible Winner,” DODGE AND BURN made a spectacular chart debut upon its September 2015 release, entering the Soundscan/Billboard 200 at #10 – The Dead Weather’s third consecutive top 10 debut. What’s more, DODGE AND BURN came in at #1 on Billboard’s “independent Albums” chart and #2 on both the “Alternative Albums” and “Rock Albums” rankings.
“Little” Jack Lawrence, bassist in The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes and City and Colour, wrote and recorded a new song for Third Man Records’ The Blue Room Spotlight Series. Entitled "Silver Flying Machine," the minimalist, reverb-drenched tune was written and recorded using Critter & Guitari’s Septavox synthesizer and Terz amplifier, both exclusively built and designed for and inspired by Third Man Records. "Silver Flying Machine" is the third installment of this special live video series, that features visually striking presentations of intimate performances from Third Man’s Blue Room venue, shot in-house on RED cameras and released in 4k resolution. Hard work, grit, and pristine musicality steeped in real life experience from the school of hard knocks - that’s Nashville. That's Country music. That’s Margo Price. Price is the first Nashville-based artist signed to Jack White’s Third Man Records, and her debut LP Midwest Farmer’s Daughter will be released March 25, 2016. Watch the wild music video for album highlight “Hurtin’ (On The Bottle)” now, via The Fader.
Midwest Farmer’s Daughter was recorded at the legendary Sun Studio, and mixed at Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN. Produced by Alex Munoz, the songs were cut live to analog tape, with Margo and her band working the night shift at Sun (7pm-2am), after the museum had closed. Most importantly, this collection of ten original cuts takes root in actual events in Price’s life – from her upbringing on a family farm in Illinois, to the musical community she has built around her in East Nashville, and every tragic or tragicomic turn along the way.
“The bottle” looms large over Midwest Farmer’s Daughter. “I killed the angel on my shoulder, with a bottle of tequila” she declares with conviction on album centerpiece “Since You Put Me Down,” and things only get more punch drunk on “Hurtin’ (On The Bottle),” which Price co-wrote with Caitlin Rose. Order the "Hurtin' (On The Bottle)" 7" single with non-album B-Side "Desperate and Depressed" from Third Man Records HERE.
Though Midwest Farmer’s Daughter is Price’s debut she has already stacked up some lofty comparisons. Rolling Stone Country recently raved: “Her voice aches with the same world weariness that permeated Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette's songs.”
Margo performs live with her band The Pricetags, and will have new tour dates to announce shortly: http://www.margoprice.com/
Midwest Farmer’s Daughter tracklist:
1. Hands Of Time
2. About To Find Out
3. Tennessee Song
4. Since You Put Me Down
5. Four Years Of Chances
6. This Town Gets Around
7. How The Mighty Have Fallen
9. Hurtin' (On The Bottle)
10. World's Greatest Loser
Last December, during our Holiday Help-A-Thon, we collected 49 units of blood, helping 147 patients at the time of year when it matters most. We exceeding our goal by 23%, and our donors (that's you) were so reliable, we had to TURN PEOPLE AWAY! This level of turnout is quite literally unheard of at the American Red Cross, and it's because OF YOU. So, when we offered to do a second drive this year, the Red Cross gave us even more time slots and nurse techs, so we could accommodate even more donors. On Friday, December 18th at our Nashville headquarters, we will host our third blood drive in two years, with a goal to exceed expectations yet again, and SAVE LIVES this Holiday season.
Like our previous blood drive, space is limited, and we won't let you leave a pound lighter with nothing to show for it. Donors will be granted the choice of one gift from beneath the Third Man Family Christmas Tree, and trust us, there are no ugly sweaters, socks, or vacuum cleaners in there... every wrapped mystery gift will delight and excite! (Anyone who saw last year's gifts knows we ain't kiddin' around!) If you are eligible to give blood (i.e. 17+, weighing at least 110 lbs, generally healthy, and weren't turned away for another reason in previous drives), please register with the Red Cross and sign up for a time slot HERE.
If you are trying to sign up, but all slots are already filled, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name & phone number. We will put you on our waitlist, and let you know if a time slot becomes available.
Appointments will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis, and we cannot accommodate any walk-ins.
THANK YOU in advance for your generosity. It won't go unrewarded...

Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features original compositions from world-renowned, award-winning Italian composer Ennio Morricone. While Tarantino is a lifelong fan of Morricone’s work and has used his music in his past five films, this historic collaboration marks the first time Morricone has recorded original music specifically for one of Tarantino’s films. It is also the first time Morricone has scored a Western film in over 40 years, since the release of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
