  • THIRD MAN RECORDS PARTNERS WITH YWCA NASHVILLE FOR DENIM DRIVE

Posted by Third Man on 19 October 2016

Third Man Records has partnered with YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee and the non-profit’s 2616 Resale Boutique for an expanded "Good Neighbor Day." From October 22nd through 28th (EXTENDED TO  NOVEMBER 4th!), Third Man Records will collect women's jeans to donate to 2616 Resale Boutique, located in the heart of East Nashville. During the month of December, 2616 Resale Boutique will “resell” those donated jeans. All proceeds benefit YWCA programs, including its domestic violence shelter and prevention services. Third Man Records has taken a particular interest in the YWCA's MEND Nashville program, an innovative, primary prevention initiative dedicated to ending violence against women and girls by engaging and educating men and boys. Watch the powerful "We are the Lions" video the YWCA produced to launch the campaign in July below...

For this "Denim Drive," Third Man Records requests high quality, gently used denim pieces. Each donated pair grants the donor the chance to win a "Blue Vinyl Exclusive Instant Record Collection," containing limited pressings of some of the label's most popular releases from Jack White, The 5.6.7.8's, The Racontwoers, and more. Donations will be collected in person at Third Man Records' Nashville storefront (623 7th Avenue South), and can also be mailed in. Mailed contributions must arrive by October 28th to be eligible for the chance to win the Instant Record Collection. (Ship donations to 623 7th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203, attn: DENIM DRIVE.)

"Denim Drive" donations will be stamped as having originated from a Third Man fan before making their way to 2616 Resale Boutique for sale a few weeks after the drive ends. Acceptable donations should be clean, gently used (no destroyed denim, please), and preferably of a high original quality and current style.

“Good Neighbor Days” take place during the last Saturday of each month at Third Man Record’s storefront, with 10% of the day's sales donated to a local non-profit.

YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. YWCA is on a mission to ensure those in need are supported along the continuum of prevention, safety, self-sufficiency, and success. The following programs are offered regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender or gender identity. Girls, Inc. at YWCA, MEND, Domestic Violence Services, Family Literacy Center, Dress for Success Nashville, and Women Presidents’ Organization. For more information, visit www.ywcanashville.com.

  • LIVE CONVERSATION AND BOOK LAUNCH WITH IGGY POP AND JEFF GOLD, IN DETROIT AND NEW YORK

Posted by Third Man on 19 October 2016

To celebrate the publication of one of the most anticipated books of the year, TOTAL CHAOS: The Story of The Stooges / As Told by Iggy Pop, Third Man Books is beyond excited to present legendary and legend-making musician Iggy Pop in conversation with author Jeff Gold. They will appear in Detroit on October 25 at Third Man Records Cass Corridor, and on November 4 in New York City at Rizzoli Bookstore. These events will be open to the public with admittance first come, first serve.

TOTAL CHAOS: The Story of The Stooges / As Told by Iggy Pop is the first time the story of this seminal band has been told entirely in Pop's own words and features a cache of never before seen images. Pop's candid, bare-all account is the incredible tragic and triumphant story of a group who rose from youth, fell prey to drugs, alcohol, and music business realities, collapsed and nearly 30 years later reformed, recording and touring to great acclaim. In 2010 The Stooges—credited with having invented punk rock—were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their continuing influence can be felt today in the shape and sound of rock-n-roll music. TOTAL CHAOS:The Story of The Stooges / As Told By Iggy Pop will be available from Third Man Books in November 2016.

"What does it mean to be Iggy Pop, five decades of being 'the wildest man in rock'? Iggy Pop is many things. Rock Star. Singer, Rebel. Primitive. Stooge. The Jean Genie, Passenger. Legend." - Johnny Marr

About Iggy Pop and Jeff Gold:

James Newell Osterberg Jr., known professionally as Iggy Pop, is an American singer-songwriter, musician and actor. He was the founder and vocalist of influential proto-punk band The Stooges, who reunited in 2003, and in 2010 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Pop's music has encompassed a number of styles over the course of his career, from garage and punk rock to forays into jazz and blues. Pop's best known songs include "Lust for Life," "The Passenger," "Real Wild Child (Wild One)," "China Girl,” “Nightclubbing," and the Stooges classics "Search and Destroy" and "I Wanna Be Your Dog.” In March 2016, Pop released his highest charting album ever, Post Pop Depression, a collaboration with Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal).

Author Jeff Gold is a music historian, author, former record label executive, and Grammy Award winner. He has been profiled by Rolling Stone as one of the five “top collectors of high-end music memorabilia.” As Executive Vice President/General Manager of Warner Bros. Records and a VP at A&M Records, Gold worked with Iggy Pop, Prince, R.E.M., The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police, and Cat Stevens. A four-time Grammy nominated Art Director, he won the 1990 Best Album Package Grammy for Suzanne Vega’s Days of Open Hand. Gold has consulted for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Experience Music Project, and appeared as an expert on PBS’ History Detectives. Gold and colleague Laura Woolley also appraised The Bob Dylan Archive now housed at the University of Tulsa. His discovery of previously undocumented tapes has led to major label releases including Bob Dylan in Concert at Brandeis University 1963. Gold’s 2012 book 101 Essential Rock Records: The Golden Age of Vinyl, From The Beatles to the Sex Pistols was one of eight books chosen by Rolling Stone as “the year’s best reading material.” Gold owns music collectibles website Record Mecca and writes about topics of interest to collectors on its blog.

*Special thanks to Magnolia, Amazon and the DFT for assisting in coordination for the Detroit event and to Rizzoli Bookstore for hosting the NYC event.

  • LILLIE MAE RISCHE JOINS THIRD MAN RECORDS LINE-UP

Posted by Third Man on 13 October 2016

SINGER-SONGWRITER-MUSICIAN SETS TO WORK ON NEXT SOLO ALBUM WITH JACK WHITE PRODUCING

SET TO APPEAR WITH WHITE ON A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION THIS SATURDAY

TEAMED WITH LANGHORNE SLIM FOR THIRD MAN & LUCK REUNION ‘LUCK MANSION SESSIONS’

We are so pleased to announce Lillie Mae Rische as the latest member of our growing roster. Lillie Mae is well-beloved by Third Man fans, who will be pleased to hear that she currently at work recording her much anticipated solo album with Jack White producing.

“Lillie Mae has been performing on stage since she was 3 years old,” said White. “She is an incredible writer who can play an array of instruments and has paid her dues from the honky-tonks on Broadway to stages around the world. She is a beloved artist in Nashville, and I think it is safe to say that she is one in a billion. You wont find anyone else quite like this woman no matter how long you live.”

“I'm proud to have become a part of the Third Man family, where there is no shortage of hard work and dedication to creating and making available the music we love so,” Rische said. “I'm forever thankful to Jack for believing in me and giving me a chance and all the freedom I've needed to make this album.”

The album follows Rische’s debut single, “Nobody’s” b/w “The Same Eyes,” released in 2014 as part of Third Man’s ongoing Blue Series. Discovered by the legendary Cowboy Jack Clement when playing with her family band The Rische’s (formerly Jypsi), comprised of sisters Amber-Dawn, Scarlett, and Grace, and brother Frank, the country outfit can often still be heard at the historic Layla’s Bluegrass Inn in Nashville. Rische has also spent considerable time as a member of White’s crack touring and recording combo, playing fiddle and mandolin while also lending vocals to such tracks as “Temporary Ground,” from 2014’s LAZARETTO. She will once again join White on fiddle and backing vocals for a special acoustic performance on A Prairie Home Companion with Chris Thile this Saturday, October 15th, along with Dominic Davis and Fats Kaplin. The show will be broadcast live around the world from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN at 5pm CT via www.prairiehome.org.

Rische also recently partnered with Langhorne Slim to record two songs as part of Third Man & Luck Reunion’s Luck Mansion Sessions during AmericanaFest in Nashville this past September. The songs will be released on 7-inch vinyl with an accompanying video in early 2017. Watch a sneak peek video of the sessions below...
